Croydon's winning streak of six games ended today when Corinthian beat 4-1 at the Arena. The day started with the news that Jeff Duah-Kessie had left Croydon to go to Bostik South side Phoenix Sports, where he scored on his debut there. I'm sure all at Croydon FC wish Jeff good luck playing at a higher level, and the fans probably wish he scored today for Croydon. Andy Somo wore the no 9 shirt today, and started with a chance that went wide of the far post. Corinthian scored their goal after ten minutes, when following a corner, their captain Jack Bath scored with a header. Matt O' Donoghue had a chance to equalise, after going forward, and receiving a pass from his left, his shot went wide of the post. A little later, O'Donoghue managed to reach the ball before it went over the goalline, but his shot went to an opponent who cleared the ball. Having received a pass from behind, Fidan Fejzi had a shot which landed wide of the near post. Croydon got a free kick, but Jamie McGeoghegan's shot went straight to the keeper. As the first half was ending, Nathan Campbell was given a yellow card when both he and an opponent were going for the ball. The first half ended with a pass to Lauris Chin, and his shot going wide of the far post.
Croydon were out run by Corinthian throughout the game, and Croydon took any chance when they could. After Michael Hurcomb's goal in the 48th minute, Croydon thought they'd bring in fresh legs in the form of Levi Shango in place of Daniel Hogan. But it made no difference as Corinthian held possession, and scored a penalty via Conor Johnson. Croydon did get a free kick afterwards when Shango was taken down, only for Fejzi's free kick to go wide of the far post. Andy Somo missed a sitter with twenty minutes to go, and this was followed by a good opportunity when Shango kept on his feet and passed to Fejzi only for the ball to be cleared by an opponent. With the wind picking up again, a loose ball came off Aiden Brown and the ball was heading towards an empty goal only for the ball to end up wide of the post. Corinthian's keeper stopped chances from Brown and Shango in quick succession. Shango was tripped by an opponent and Croydon got a penalty which Jamie McGeoghegan took but came off the keeper but off the rebound Andy Somo scored five minutes into stoppage time. However within the space of a minute, the ball was in the back of the opposing net courtesy of Oscar Housego before the whistle blew for full time.
