CROYDON FC 0 – 1 tooting & mitcham – pre-season friendly fundraiser
To celebrate Croydon FC’s 70th anniversary year, Tooting and Mitcham United were invited to play the final pre-season friendly and first match of the new season taking place at Croydon Sports Arena.
208 fans came through the turnstiles (plus a whole load of children!) and for most of the crowd, this was the first chance to see the Trams’ new signings, as well as see who stayed from last season. There was some game time for all the players and a few moments of excitement but to many, the result was largely irrelevant.
Instead, the day was a chance to catch up with friends, for children to enjoy the bouncy castle, face painting and balloon modelling, while adults could take advantage of the available food (provided by local charity partner South Norwood Community Kitchen) and drink (the bar running out of draft beer!); listen to music; buy merchandise; and take part in the raffle and silent auction.
Post-match, there was a tribute to the late Andy Hillburn (former club president) with the clubhouse bar re-named in his honour. There was even karaoke for the team, so really something for everyone.
Croydon’s league season starts on Saturday, and travel to Larkfield and New Hythe, KO 3pm with the first home fixture the following Saturday vs Greenways.
