CROYDON FC
On a cold and drizzly Saturday there was a game happening on the Thames Estuary between Sheppey Sports and Croydon.
Jack White had a corner early on, it fell to Charlie Dale with a good shot on target. However, it ended just wide of the post.
In the early stages of play, Croydon were all over Sheppey with good chances from Kanan Fitton, Cameron MacMillan and Olusegun Akinwunmi. And on the 16 minute mark, the chances paid off as Croydon took the lead with a brilliant goal from Kanan Fitton. The fans celebrated in jubilation even calling the goal scorer Kanan van Basten by the travelling support.
Approaching the half hour mark of the game, Croydon fell asleep in the defence area and Sheppey’s number 9 Jack Marsh scored their equaliser. A few minutes later Sheppey Sports had another chance on target.
Croydon FC went into at the break 1-1. Time to warm up with a hot chocolate.
Croydon made a substitution on the 65 minute mark with Charlie Dale off and Tom Barton on. Tom Barton got set to work straight away taking a free kick which was saved by their keeper.
On the 69 minute the Croydon fans went wild with another Kanan Fitton goal. Croydon have been shooting at the opposition goal for most of the second half. And then they took the lead.
Croydon made a late substitution after an injury to Croydon goal scorer Kanan Fitton, who made way for Pat Ward.
And then 10 minutes later Cameron MacMillan came off for Stacey Petrou.
90 minutes came up on the scoreboard and there was 6 minutes injury time to be added on. Where those 6 minutes came from I don’t know. There was a corner to Sheppey in the dying minutes but thankfully nothing came of it.
Approaching the 96 minute mark, Darren Cooper made an extremely dangerous tackle on Stacey Petrou which resulted in Cooper being sent off. Finally the referee blew the final whistle on 98.20 minutes with a Croydon 2-1 win.
